About

Aware Ones of the Treasure Coast, an informal secular humanist group, offers weekly Sunday morning conversations over coffee, a bi-weekly writers’ group, monthly potluck suppers, special event gatherings, a newsletter (links to all newsletters are available on the Newsletter Archives page) and a spontaneous e-mail dialogue. From the outset, however, the core gathering of the group, and much of its identity has played out at our Sunday Coffees.
The Aware Ones of the Treasure Coast, or AOTC, has functioned as an independent group for just over two years. During that period, informal membership has fluctuated little and now stands at about 15. This core membership is highly dependable for the obvious reason of a unique shared camaraderie we find nowhere else and enjoy tremendously. Several Sunday coffee regulars have said, and agreed that something unusual, something special, happens at our table. Unknown previously in friendships, in conversational quality, interest, diversity, and depth, and that bonding phenomena, the simple pleasure of enjoying the conversations, has made our group special.
Also during this period there has been no concerted attempt to proselytize with an aim at growing our core membership. Recently, however, the issue of the sustainability of our unique group has led us to realize that we must enlarge our base. To that end, we encourage anyone whose interest has been piqued by the above introduction to visit the Aware Ones at one of our Sunday Coffees. Please see our Contact page for more information.
